Off track :( Thursday, January 25th, 2007

Yeahyeah, I suck 🙁 I haven’t run since the last entry. But there was reason for it, I swear!

Number one, Snow and Ice.

And Number Two, I’ve been sicker than a QE2 sailor.

I missed work Monday, because I got sick Sunday evening-ish. Tuesday I worked, but felt like ass. Should have just slept. And today I worked from home, still feeling crappy. I feel a little better this evening though, so hopefully I’ve kicked it.

Aside from the no running, and the being sick, it’s been pretty good. We saw a KICK ASS show on Friday night at Hogg Auditorium. Ghostland Observatory. If you haven’t seen or heard that band yet, you MUST run to your nearest Myspace and listen. Perhaps the greatest band in YEARS. Soooooo fun. Their live show is a killer. You cannot help but shake ya ass to it.

Saturday we went to the Salt Lick BBQ for Rob’s birthday. Had a GREAT time. Went from there to see Spike and Mike’s Sick and Twisted Animation festival at Alamo Drafthouse. Pretty funny. The funniest one was a fake commercial for a Mexican Restaurant.

Sunday I bought a Kayak! HELLLLL YEAH! I’m so so super psyched! We have been working like crazy to finish off our insurance claim from the house fire. We finally finished it on Monday. We ended up doing a TON of the rebuys for stuff in the past week or two. We’ve had boxes upon boxes showing up from UPS. Seriously! I think we had like 12 last Friday and today we had 17 boxes! No kidding! it’s been insane. Like Christmas all over again. Well, not really, because it’s all stuff that we had before, but a lot of it we got to upgrade and stuff. So it’s been fun. and did I mention…. a KAYAK!?!?!?! (I used the insurance money from my snowboard and gear towards a kayak). Feels GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT to have insurance behind us.

So it’s been a crazy week and a half. Remind me to talk about “GEEEAAAARRRRR OVERLOAD” next time.
I got to go finish up some work stuff now. Hopefully the running will pick back up this weekend.

Under and In.

On track Sunday, January 14th, 2007

So I did my run on Saturday. It was freakin’ 42 degrees outside. Damn cold. That’ll show ya the dedication I have to this 🙂 It actually wasn’t so bad once I got going. I need to wear gloves next time. I used my new heart rate monitor this time, but I still need to configure it and such. With it unconfigured, it said I ran 2.14 miles. I know that I ran further this time than the last though, so I think I need to configure it for my stride to make sure it is accurate. I’ll do that sometime in the next couple of days.

We’re supposed to have really nasty weather the next few days. I’m not going to be able to run if it is icy out, so we’ll see what happens. I have learned not to mess with ice. I slipped a little over a year ago, fell off some concrete steps, fell backwards and landed head first on the back of my head. My head was the first thing to hit and it took all my body weight on it. Nearly knocked me unconscious. I ended up having to do chiropractics for months because of it.

Anyway, this run seemed to be about the same as last. It’s tough because I am pushing it on the running parts. Granted, it’s only for 60 seconds at a time, but I’m still pushing it. My watch said my peak pace was 7:14 or something like that. Once I figure out how to upload the data to the computer, maybe I’ll incorporate that into my blogs.

Saw the movie “Children Of Men” tonight. Not bad. Not great, but definitely not bad.

Saw “The Last Kiss” last night. Good acting, but was a pretty depressing movie. Great soundtrack.

Another day another mile… Thursday, January 11th, 2007

… not really. I pushed yesterday’s run off until tonight. Last night we had our not-quite annual company dinner. Ate at Buca Di Beppo. Definitely a good time.

Anyway, so I did the Day two of the post below. Same run as the first day. It felt pretty good. About 2/3rd of the way through, when I did the 60 seconds of jogging, it felt much more like I hit my pace and got into a rhythm. Starting to feel more natural than forced. I also ran around the block (which I know to be exactly one mile) instead of a random course. I wanted to have an idea of just how far I run/walk in 25 minutes with this program. So I’m right at about 2.25 miles. That’s not all running though. So my running pace doesn’t suck that bad! 😉 The cool thing is… before I started this plan, I was absolutely DYING after 1 mile. Granted, I was running the whole thing at a pretty good clip, but it makes me feel better that I am doubling that distance, even if I am walking, and feeling much better during/afterwards. I was afraid that this plan would be too simple, taking too much of a step backwards… but I think it really is a good thing. My muscles need to build back up, but more than that, I need to get into good cardiovascular shape.

Still no heart monitor. Hopefully tomorrow. *crosses fingers*

I’ll probably run again on Saturday, that way I can start next week off on Monday. We have some crappy weather coming up, I hope it cooperates.

I’ll try to make a non-Workout post soon too. I have a TONNNNNN of pictures that I want to post. If anyone knows of a blogging program where I can separate the posts out into tagged categories, but make it so that you can click to see each category, I would be interested. I know a lot of people could care less about the workout info. So it’d be nice to separate that out without having to do a completely second blog for it.

Oh yeah! Have you seen the new Apple iPhone? That thing is SICK!

Help on the way Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

I just picked up a Polar RS200SD heart rate monitor. This is an insurance replacement anyway. (I actually bought it off eBay and saved about $40). This will help me to track my progress. I have a tendency to have a higher than normal heart rate and I want to keep close tabs on this as I run. Anyway… more later.

The Plan Monday, January 8th, 2007

Long time no post. I will fill in the blanks between this and last post.. for now, I’ll post just to get it going.

I’ve been trying to get back on the running schedule and not been very good about it, so I’ve decided to pick a plan, and to stick to it. In order for me not to get burned out, I picked a really easy plan. Probably too easy, but the idea is if it’s THAT easy, it’ll make it easier for me to stick with it. This is called the Couch-to-5K Plan. I found it while surfing around and you can get to it here.

This is the plan. I did Day 1 tonight. It felt good. I probably pushed the “jogging” a little hard, but that’ ok. It’s just 60 second intervals today. I’ll keep posting about how the workouts go. I also need to figure out how to tag these posts differently than normal posts because reading about a workout schedule isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, and I have more interesting things to post, but blogging about the workout will keep me motivated I hope.

Week Workout 1 Workout 2 Workout 3
1 Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes. Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes. Brisk five-minute warmup walk.
